    CryptoCompare (CoinDesk Data) API alternative

    Updated 2026-11-04Competitor facts checked 2026-11-04

CryptoCompare became CCData, then CoinDesk Data in February 2025. On 21 May 2026 CoinDesk Data retired its free API tier: accounts without a subscription stopped returning data, and the old min-api.cryptocompare.com host now answers 401. Its paid data is deep (funding, open interest, liquidations and options with minute-level history, plus L2 books), but prices aren't published; you book a call. If you need a free or self-serve alternative, here's how Crypto Data API compares.

We build Crypto Data API, so read this as a vendor's comparison. Every competitor fact below comes from that provider's own pricing or documentation pages, linked under Sources, as of 2026-11-04. Prices and limits change, so check their site before you buy. If we got something wrong, email [email protected] and we'll fix it.

    Which one should you use?

    Choose CoinDesk Data if…

you need institutional depth: options data, minute-level derivatives history across many venues, L2 book history, or an FCA-authorised benchmark provider.

    Choose Crypto Data API if…

you were on CryptoCompare's free tier, want published prices and self-serve signup, or need Hyperliquid, ETF-flow and volatility data for a bot or agent.
