Hyperliquid API vs Crypto Data API
Hyperliquid's own API is free, keyless and first-party, and for live prices, current funding and a 20-level order book you should use it directly. What it doesn't keep is history: only the last 5,000 candles per interval, no historical open interest, mark or oracle prices, and no public market-wide liquidation feed. Crypto Data API fills those gaps from our own archive, Hyperliquid's S3 archive and a node stream.
We build Crypto Data API, so read this as a vendor's comparison. Every competitor fact below comes from that provider's own pricing or documentation pages, linked under Sources, as of 2026-11-04. Prices and limits change, so check their site before you buy. If we got something wrong, email [email protected] and we'll fix it.
Which one should you use?
you need live prices, current funding and open interest, your own account data, order placement, or a book snapshot. It's free and it's the source.
you need to backtest beyond 5,000 bars, want open-interest or mark/oracle history, need every liquidation across the market, or want positioning signals (liquidation map, whales, gamma) computed for you.
Side-by-side comparison
| Crypto Data API | Hyperliquid public API | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free tier, then from $29/mo. Archive files are also sold individually in USDC. | Free, no API key. |
| Candles | Hyperliquid and Binance OHLCV, with deep monthly candle archives back to Hyperliquid's 2023 launch. | Only the most recent 5,000 candles per interval: about 3.5 days of 1-minute bars, about 7 months of hourly. |
| Funding history | Hourly Hyperliquid funding back to 2023, plus settled funding prints with the boundary oracle price. | fundingHistory back to May 2023, paged at 500 rows. |
| Open interest / mark / oracle history | One-minute mark, oracle and OI for every perp from 2023-05-20, as daily Parquet files. | Current snapshot only. History exists only in the requester-pays S3 archive, uploaded about monthly, which "may be missing" data. |
| Liquidations | Every Hyperliquid liquidation fill, plus OKX and Bybit, and a liquidation map from on-chain liquidation prices. | No public market-wide feed. Liquidations only appear in per-address user streams. |
| Order book | L2 snapshots archived every 5 minutes, plus depth analytics. | l2Book live, up to 20 levels per side. No history via the API. |
| Positioning analytics | Whale bias for ≥$100k accounts, gamma exposure, quant regimes. | Raw per-address state only. |
| Rate limits | 10 to 120 requests/minute depending on plan, with whole-market snapshots in one call. | 1,200 weight per minute per IP (about 60 heavy info calls). |
| MCP server | Yes, hosted at cryptodataapi.com/mcp (API key or browser login), plus an npm package. | No official server (third-party ones exist). |
When the free API is all you need
For a bot that reads live mid prices, current funding and its own positions, and places orders, Hyperliquid's API is the right tool and costs nothing. We use it ourselves.
What we add on top
History you can't get back. The candle cap means a backtest that needs more than seven months of hourly data, or more than a few days of minute data, can't be built from the API alone. We archive it continuously and backfill from Hyperliquid's S3 archive, recording rather than papering over the days that archive is missing.
Market-wide liquidations. Hyperliquid doesn't publish a public liquidation stream. We capture every liquidation fill from a node stream, and build the liquidation heatmap from each account's on-chain liquidation price.
Positioning computed for you. Whale positioning, gamma exposure and regime signals would each take thousands of per-address calls to rebuild yourself.

Frequently asked questions
- How far back does Hyperliquid's candle API go?
- Only the most recent 5,000 candles per interval. We measured about 3.6 days of 1-minute bars and about 7 months of hourly bars on 4 November 2026. Hyperliquid's S3 archive doesn't include candles either.
- Does Hyperliquid have a liquidations API?
- Not a public market-wide one. Liquidations appear in user-scoped streams that need an address. Crypto Data API records every Hyperliquid liquidation fill and serves them through its API and the free liquidation pages.
- Where can I get historical open interest for Hyperliquid?
- Hyperliquid's API only returns current open interest. Its requester-pays S3 archive has asset-context snapshots. Crypto Data API converts those into daily Parquet files of one-minute mark, oracle and open interest from 20 May 2023, and marks the days Hyperliquid's archive is missing.
- Do I need an API key for Hyperliquid's API?
- No. Hyperliquid's info endpoint and WebSocket are keyless, limited by weight per IP address. Crypto Data API needs a free key, which an AI agent can create for itself.
A free key gives you 100 requests a day straight away and 1,000 a day once you confirm your email, with no card. Every endpoint is documented, and the same data is available to AI agents through our MCP server.
